Monster Dash 1K brings Halloween fun to Winnebago High School

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Monster Dash 1K brought Halloween excitement to Winnebago High School, where children dressed in costumes participated in a fun run followed by a Trunk or Treat event.

Hosted by the Winnebago Park District and Winnebago PTO, the event featured kids running two and a half laps around the track before heading to the parking lot to enjoy decorated trunks and collect candy.

“I’m a firm believer of give where you live, and I love Halloween, it’s my favorite season, so it’s really fun for me to do too,” said an attendee who participated in handing out treats.

The Monster Dash 1K was designed to be a fun and engaging event for the whole community. Children eagerly ran around the track, showcasing their Halloween costumes, which added to the festive atmosphere.

After the run, participants moved to the parking lot where cars were decorated in various themes, offering a visual treat along with the candy. This setup allowed children to safely enjoy the Halloween tradition of trick-or-treating in a controlled environment.

The event not only provided entertainment for the children but also allowed community members to connect and celebrate together. Many of those handing out treats expressed joy in participating and seeing familiar faces from the community.
