San Jose restaurant serving Thai-inspired brunch staples opens near SJSU
Brunch is served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., which is also the restaurant’s opening hours. The eatery closes, then dinner hours are from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Hours are the same for seven days a week.
According to owner Ronnapop Sattayasomboon, VeLa signed a three-year lease for the space within steps of the college campus.
For brunch, Sattayasomboon recommends three dishes: the VeLa Omelette, Khao Soi Crispy Chicken Benedict and the Shrimp Cake Benedict.
The restaurant takes over the space that was previously occupied by Santi Thai Fusion. VeLa is under a completely different ownership group and is not a rebrand of Santi Thai Fusion, Sattayasomboon said.
VeLa is located about a block away from other off-campus eateries on E. William Street. They include Cali Spartan Mexican Kitchen, Spartan Taco Truck and TK Noodle #1.
Sattayasomboon said, “we are all a new team and a totally new business.” On its website, the restaurant revealed the meaning behind its name.
“VeLa means ‘time’ — and here, time is the secret ingredient in everything we serve,” the website states. “From bright brunch plates to timeless Thai dinners, every dish invites you to pause, savor, and share the moment.”
