Rep. Matt Pierce to Hold Town Hall on GOP Redistricting Proposal Oct. 27 in Bloomington
Written from press release
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — State Rep. Matt Pierce (D-Bloomington) will host a public town hall on Monday, Oct. 27, to discuss the Republican-led effort to redraw Indiana’s congressional maps mid-decade and hear from constituents about their top concerns heading into the 2026 legislative session.
The event will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. ET in the Council Chambers (Room 115) at Bloomington City Hall, 401 N. Morton St. It will begin with opening remarks from Pierce about the upcoming session, followed by a Q&A focused on redistricting and an open forum for residents to share their views.
Pierce said the town hall will give citizens an opportunity to learn more about the implications of mid-decade redistricting—a move Democrats have criticized as a political power grab—and to speak directly about issues affecting their communities.
“This is a chance for Hoosiers to make their voices heard on the Republicans’ proposed redrawing of congressional boundaries and to discuss the broader challenges our community faces,” Pierce said in a statement announcing the event.
The proposed redistricting effort would come just four years after Indiana’s 2021 maps were approved, a move some legal experts and voting-rights advocates say could further entrench partisan control.
Residents are encouraged to attend and bring questions about redistricting, as well as other legislative priorities such as education, housing, health care, and local infrastructure.
