LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — It’s been a turnaround season for the Comeaux Spartans.

After one of the longest winning droughts in recent memory, one player on this year’s team is determined to change the past.

Junior running back Ja’den Celestine is a bright spot for the Spartans, who shine every Friday night, including Comeaux’s last game vs. North Vermilion.

Celestine rushed for 265 yards and tallied four touchdowns, leading the Spartans to their fourth win of the season under Coach Marquis Newsome.

“I learned that our team can deal with some adversity, but we’re still not quite,” Newsome said. “We need to be as far as face-to-face from the juggernaut and the big dogs of the area. We do a lot of more self-evaluation and basically, you know, not play the names on our chests on the team’s chest but actually players instead.”

And as the wins pile up for Celestine and the Spartans, Newsome knows continued success means a real shot at some post-season success.
