Carjacking leads to fatal crash on Chicago’s West Side

CHICAGO — A person was killed in a crash following a carjacking on the city’s West Side.

The fatal crash happened around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 2800 block of West Van Buren in the Garfield Park neighborhood.

According to police, officers responded to the crash and found that a silver SUV jumped the curb and struck a tree.

An unidentified male was found unresponsive inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police said that further investigation revealed that the SUV was stolen in a carjacking in the 4200 block of South Artesian, just 10 minutes earlier. No injuries were reported during the carjacking.

Area Four Detectives are investigating.
