The video shows the moments leading up to–and after– a struggle between the unidentified trooper and the driver, 34-year-old Brandon Nicholas of Sunshine.
While the trooper claimed that he saw a pistol in Nicholas’s car, there was no gun found in the car after Nicholas was fatally shot. Instead, troopers said they found a gun in a ditch along the Louisiana Highway 431, between where the chase began and ended. That would be somewhere along a mile and a half stretch of dimly-lit highway, at about 2 a.m.
LSP Superintendent, Colonel Robert Hodges, said the investigation is “active” and he encouraged anyone with information about the incident to report it it.
