LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Newly released video from the Louisiana State Police shows a chase in Lafourche Parish on Sept. 8 that ended in a fatal shootout. Troopers were attempting to stop two men wanted on drug charges.
The attempt at a traffic stop turned into a 22-mile chase at a speed that reached more than 100 miles per hour. But the road ran out on Lake Long Drive.
According to the LSP, just as the trooper pulled up the driver, 46-year-old Jonah Parfait drove off again while the passenger, 31-year-old Darrien Riffe, tried to get away on foot.
LSP officials said while a trooper chased after Riffe, Parfait was captured after crashing into another car on Louisiana Highway One. Riffe was killed in a shootout with the trooper who pursued him.
