The surprise announcement was made during Friday’s football halftime show, and it had students jumping for joy.
Trumpet player Noah Xiong was so excited his jaw literally dropped.
“I am so hyped, we’ve worked so, so hard to get to this position right now. And I am just so proud of this band, like so much,” he said. “I was shocked. I turn around to all my bandmates, I was like, ‘No way.’ My mouth was just wide open. I just couldn’t believe it. And I was getting so emotional. I started tearing up.”
The Director of the Instrumental Music Program, Esmeralda Rocha Lozano, said she did more than tear up.
“I cried because we’ve been working on this for so long,” she said. “It’s been many years in the making. And last year, we were really close to getting in, and we brought in the whole band, and they all rallied together, and they did it… I haven’t felt like that in a really long time. And it was such a beautiful moment.”
According to organizers, Clovis High’s Golden Cougar Marching Band was one of five high school bands chosen to perform from the entire country.
The trip will cost nearly $400,000. Anyone who would like to donate can click here.
