Topeka police and firefighters were called on Dec. 20, 2023 regarding reports of a car vs. motorcycle crash in the area of Southwest 29th Street and Southwest Fairway Drive. First responders arriving at the scene transported one driver, 29-year-old Joshua P. Harmer, to a nearby hospital where he died two days later.

Police booked Estes on Oct. 10, 2024 into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on bench warrants. However, after going over additional evidence, the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office charged her with involuntary manslaughter and other crimes.

Estes pleaded guilty to four charges on Aug. 27, 2025. Several other charges were dismissed.
