By rssfeeds-admin Mark Nieves, 44, and Shytel Limuel, 31, have pleaded guilty to the first-degree felony of intentionally or knowingly causing serious bodily injuries to a child, along with endangering a child. Nieves was also charged with a third-degree felony of causing bodily injuries to a child.
The incident dates back to Jan. 2024, when law enforcement and the fire department responded to a call about an unconscious four-year-old child. When the child was transported to Shannon Medical Center, they eventually succumbed to their injuries.
According to the press release from the district attorney:
“Detectives with SAPD’s Crimes Against Children Unit responded and began their investigation. The medical examiner found the cause of death to be hypothermia and noted the child was severely malnourished, and noted evidence of neglect and abuse. The investigation ultimately led to two people being charged with several felony offenses, including intentionally or knowingly by omission causing serious bodily injury to a child. Shytel Limuel, the mother of the child, and Mark Nieves, Limuel’s boyfriend who lived with the child for a substantial period of time, were arrested by Abilene Police Department on April 24, 2024. The couple was later indicted on these charges.”
Limuel pleaded guilty on May 1 and was sentenced to 30 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Institutional Division and a year of confinement in state jail.
Nieves pleaded guilty on Oct. 8 and was sentenced to 13 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Institutional Division, and to four years and 730 days confinement.
Both of their sentences are running concurrently.
