TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WSAV) — The Tybee Island Ocean Rescue (TIOR) announced Tuesday that the U.S. Coast Guard is coordinating the removal of a channel marker that washed ashore.
It’s not uncommon to see objects washed ashore when there’s high surf on the coast. However, on Monday, a channel marker arrived on the shore of Tybee Island near 14th Street—a rare sight for locals and visitors.
While it’s not dangerous to take photos with it, TIOR is advising beachgoers to take precautions when standing near it: “Take a look from a distance, but don’t climb or sit on it!”
On Tuesday, TIOR announced that the U.S. Coast Guard is arranging the removal of Channel Buoy 8. An official removal date has not been announced yet.
