The walk, put on by Sole Support for Parkinson’s, brought dozens of people out into the sunshine for the fundraiser.
The rate of people with Parkinson’s is 1-in-1000, with an increased chance of getting it the older they get.
“Over the age of 60, it’s about 1%,” said Dr. Joseph Quinn, a professor of neurology. “So you see it goes up quite a bit once you go over 60 and at the age of 80 (it’s) something like 3.5% of the population. It’s the second most common of the neurodegenerative diseases with Alzheimer’s being the most common.”
To date, Sole Support for Parkinson’s has raised more than $30,000 for Parkinson’s resources.
