VILLE PLATTE, La. (
KLFY) — The Louisiana Cotton Festival is celebrating 71 years of tradition this weekend, Oct. 6-12, located in Ville Platte.
The festival offers a full slate of family-friendly events celebrating the region’s agricultural heritage. Held at their new location, 416 Lithcote Rd., the festival promises a mix of tradition and entertainment for all ages.
The festivities begin Monday Oct. 6with the 4-H Cotton Food Fest, Cotton Pickin’ Pet Show, and a Pumpkin Decorating Contest at the North Side Civic Center.
On Wednesday, Oct. 8, the carnival opens with “Family Night” from 5 PM – 9 PM, featuring discounted bracelet hours. Carnival hours continue Thursday evening with free admission to the fairgrounds.
Friday, Oct. 10 marks the start of admission-based entry to the fairgrounds, with a $5 fee for attendees ages six and older.
Live entertainment also kicks off Friday with the Fais Do-Do Street Dance, DJ Marshal Vidrine, and Raylan Blake & Flat Town Zydeco. Bracelet hours for the carnival are available throughout the day.
Saturday’s events begin with a Student Market from 10 AM – 2 PM, followed by more carnival activities. Events on Saturday also include the Queen Cotton 71st Crowning at 6 PM, followed by live music by Horace Trahan & Ossun Express, and Wicked Waters.
On Sunday, Oct. 12, the festival concludes with an 8:30 AM Harvest Mass at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church. The Grand Parade of Cotton will follow at 12 PM along Main Street in Ville Platte. The festival closes at 5 PM.
