Gulf low brings wet weather Sunday

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Saturday night will see quiet conditions settling in around Acadiana as temperatures drop into the upper 60s. Sunday will start out with passing rain around the area as an area of low pressure tightens up in the Gulf just south of the coast. This low will bring rounds of showers and thunderstorms to the area with many breaks in between. This will be much needed rain for the area and will help to keep temperatures in check with most areas only reaching the mid 80s for highs.

This low will continue to feed moisture into the area Sunday night and again into Monday as it closes in on the Cameron Parish coastline. Coastal flooding will be possible, especially in Cameron and Calcasieu Parishes where a COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY is in effect for tides running around one and a half feet above normal. Tropical development is not likely with this system, but it’s not completely out of the question. There are some models that try to spin this into a tropical depression or very weak tropical storm before moving ashore. The Hurricane Center is also now monitoring this area but is not too impressed with it.

Elsewhere in the tropics, a tropical wave in the Atlantic has a pretty good chance at becoming our next system to track. It will head west for the time being, eventually approaching the Lesser Antilles by week’s end. We have plenty of time to monitor it.

Locally, once the low moves away from the area, drier conditions return for the remainder of next week. Each day will see lots of sunshine with one or two storms possible in the afternoon hours. High temperatures will reach near 90.
