1 killed, 4 injured in Miami County crash

MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. — One person is dead and two others are seriously injured after a crash in Miami County on Saturday morning.

According to the Indiana State Police, around 10:30 a.m., officers responded to a crash with injuries on Meridian Road near East County Road 500 North that resulted in the death of a Peru woman.

Police said that a 2020 Chevrolet Blazer was headed northbound on Meridian Road and attempted to pass another vehicle. In that attempt to pass, the Blazer collided with a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox.

One of the passengers of the Equinox, 89-year-old Eclista Birner, was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were flown to local hospitals for serious injuries. The other two victims were taken to local hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.

ISP is still investigating the crash and at this time, there are no indications that alcohol or narcotics contributed to the crash.
