“We’re modern-day gladiators,” Professional Bull Rider Aaron Williams said.
This is far from Williams’ first.
“I’ve been doing this for 27 years,” Williams said. “I started at a little event like this. It was at the NorCo Valley Fair.”
He thinks of it as a nine-to-five job – but with a little more excitement.
“There’s nothing that you’re ever going to do in life that’s even gonna parallel this,” Williams said.
The riders have to stay on the bull’s back for eight seconds, and Special Event Coordinator Taylor Collins did not have much more than that to put the rodeo together.
“I would say we had about four months since we got the news. And it sounds like only a little bit of time, but we brought in the best. We brought in professionals that can make this happen,” Collins said.
They turned the former winners’ circle into a giant maze of bull chutes, allowing them to host more than 60 bull riders this weekend.
“We’ve raised a huge purse for our athletes to come in so that we can get great performances. We’ve used our resources to the best of our ability to get this show here,” Chute said.
Organizers brought in crews to widen the former race track into an arena, and they tilled the dirt to make sure it’s soft enough for the bulls.
“It’s super soft and fluffy and ready for livestock to come out here,” Collins said.
The rodeo attracted a large crowd Friday, but the fun continues Saturday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
