One man was injured after a shooting in St. Paul on Friday night.
At around 8:40 p.m., St. Paul police were helping Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office deputies with a traffic stop on the 1600 block of Maryland Avenue East when they heard gunfire nearby.
Officers found a man with a gunshot wound to the armpit area in a parking lot, and he was brought to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. Police said on Friday night that the victim was in surgery.
The St. Paul Police Department SWAT team responded to the scene to check the apartment building near the parking lot for any additional victims; however, none were found.
The suspect is believed to have left the scene in a car, and authorities are still actively searching, police said.
It is also believed that a Ramsey County squad was hit by a round, but no deputies or officers were injured.
Investigators do not believe the traffic stop is related to the shooting.
