BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Police arrested a Baton Rouge teen accused of shooting one person during a robbery Wednesday.

Officers were called to the 800 block of Staring Lane about a reported shooting. An affidavit stated officers learned that Jamal Mckenzie, 17, pushed a man off an electric scooter and tried to flee the area with it.

Shortly after, the victim confronted Mckenzie about the scooter, leading to a fight between the two. According to police documents, Mckenzie revealed a gun and fired up to nine shots, striking the victim in the head. Police noted that the injury was a graze.

Witnesses followed Mckenzie to Stoney Creek Avenue, off Staring Lane. Police said he had a gun with missing rounds when apprehended. His clothing fit the description given by witnesses, and the scooter was found in the area.

Mckenzie was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of armed robbery and attempted first-degree murder.
