According to an arrest warrant, around 12:30 a.m. on March 21, 27-year-old Jacob Hurley allegedly walked up to a woman’s residence and tried to open the sliding door to her bedroom when she was able to shut and lock it.
Court documents show that she and Hurley had been in a relationship, but broke up, with the woman pregnant with his child. She told law enforcement that in the days following the split, he’d allegedly busted out one of her windows and come by her residence trying to get in.
An hour after Hurley had tried to enter the victim’s house on March 21, she was sweeping glass from one of the windows he had allegedly broken, where a mattress was propped up to cover the exposed window, when she saw smoke coming from it.
A criminal complaint shows that when the woman pulled the mattress from the wall to see that it had caught on fire, she threw it out of the window, damaging the side of her residence.
On Sept. 30, deputies with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office arrested Hurley and charged him with first-degree arson. He was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center on a $75,000 bond.
The arson investigation remains ongoing.
