NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Two people were arrested Tuesday, Sept. 30 in connection with a fatal shooting on Bourbon Street.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, 20-year-old Mekhi Jarius Andry was taken into custody in Jefferson Parish. 19-year-old Dontrell Bradley is in police custody as well but remains hospitalized for treatment of a gunshot wound he received in the incident.
The NOPD has accused Andry as the initial perpetrator of the incident, allegedly firing gunshots at Bradley. Bradley was struck and allegedly returned fire.
NOPD officials said on Sunday, Sept. 28, around 2:22 a.m., officers responded to shots fired on Bourbon Street. Police found three people who had been shot, two women and one man. One of the women was declared dead on the scene, the others were taken to a hospital.
A short time later, officers said they found a third woman who had sustained a graze gunshot wound. She was also taken to a hospital.
Andry will be booked in Jefferson Parish as a fugitive and extradited to the Orleans Justice Center. He will face one count of second-degree murder and three counts of attempted second-degree murder.
Once released from medical care, Bradley will be booked into the Orleans Justice Center on two probation warrants from the state of Texas regarding an aggravated assault charge there, as well as for an arrest warrant in Orleans Parish for being a felon in possession of a firearm in this incident.
