Texas A&M mascot Reveille IX has died, school says

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KIAH) — Reveille IX, the collie that was the Texas A&M mascot for seven years, has died, school officials said.

Retired Lt. Gen. James Bierman Jr., the commandant of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets, made the announcement on Monday that Reveille IX passed away on Saturday due to complications from pneumonia.

“As her predecessors have since 1931, Miss Reveille IX served as an unrelenting living symbol of the Aggie spirit, both on campus and into her retirement,” Bierman said in a statement on social media.

Reveille IX was the mascot for the Aggies from 2015 to 2021.

Reveille X took over in 2021, but she has had some medical complications of her own as she had her right eye removed after being diagnosed with glaucoma in July.

Texas A&M’s Reveille mascot dates back to 1931, when a group of cadets found an injured dog and sneaked her on to campus. The dog barked when buglers played morning reveille, earning her the Reveille name.

Reveille IX’s funeral arrangements are pending, the school said.
