Lightning strike causes south Abilene house fire

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A lightning strike caused a house fire in south Abilene Tuesday evening.

The fire happened at a home on the 2500 block of Edgemont Drive around 6:15 p.m.

Fire fighters arrived on scene and found heavy smoke coming from the roof of the home, according to a press release. Heavy flames were then discovered.

In order to get to the fire, which was in the attic, fire fighters had to pull back the ceiling. In total, an this fire caused an estimated $80,000 worth of damage.

Investigators determined this fire was caused by a lightning strike to the roof.
