TRAFFIC ALERT: Delays after multiple sheep killed in semi rollover on US-189 near Provo

UTAH COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — Drivers in Provo Canyon are experiencing delays after a semi rollover that left several sheep dead, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

According to Lieutenant Cameron Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP), around 2 p.m. Tuesday, a semi hauling sheep was traveling southbound on US-189. UHP believes that the semi was going too fast for a curve and lost control, causing it to roll.

Lt. Roden stated that there are multiple dead sheep, and crews on scene are working to offload the sheep to a controlled environment. The driver was not injured in the crash, and no other vehicles were involved.

Due to the crash, the right westbound lane on US-189 is closed. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is advising drivers to plan for heavy delays between Deer Creek Reservoir and the crash scene at milepost 12. According to UDOT, milepost 12 is roughly three miles southeast of Provo.

UDOT does not currently have an estimated clearance time.
