Desormeaux Foundation raises funds to support Acadiana moms

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — The Desormeaux Foundation in Lafayette is hosting Brenda’s Birthday Bash and Maternity Home Fundraiser this weekend to support its mission of helping mothers in need.

The foundation, which has been operating since July 2000, provides resources and support to pregnant women and mothers in Acadiana. It runs several facilities, including a Women’s Center, Maternity Home, Baby and Me Baby Boutique, Mimi’s Attic and the Theology of the Body Resource Center.

“We help them not only choose life, but we help them with whatever they need after that, after the baby is born as well,” said Brenda Desormeaux, founder and president of the Desormeaux Foundation.

Desormeaux emphasized the importance of the foundation’s five ministries in supporting women to choose life and providing hope for their future.

“Our foundation, which is five ministries, helps these women with whatever they need to choose life,” she said. “And then give them a hope for a future with whatever else might be holding them back or thinking about that. They can have this baby because they can handle it.”

The fundraiser aims to renovate the maternity home, which offers expecting mothers assistance during and after pregnancy.

“We need some support for that to remodel the home to make it livable for these young women who come to us,” Desormeaux said. “The Desormeaux Foundation offers free resources and services such as ultrasounds, baby clothes and food to women who need help. It’s going to be a very special event in raising funds for saving babies and helping moms.”
