Universal Pixels leverages Panasonic AI Powered software and Cameras to showcase Oasis reunion tour

Panasonic has revealed how it helped to power the displays during the Oasis’ global Live ’25 Tour. It was a tour that reunited the band after the Gallagher brothers fell out in August 2009. The tour had been one of the most anticipated series of live events of the year, with 41 states across 14 countries.

Panasonic’s PTZ and studio cameras integrated seamlessly by leveraging the Panasonic Advanced Auto Framing Software (AFS). The advanced AI-driven software enabled Universal Pixels to manage the displays more efficiently and delivered excellent visual quality throughout the events.

Universal Pixels, an award-winning provider of video solutions for music, film/TV, arts, and touring, used AFS across six Panasonic AW-UE150 PTZ cameras at every tour location. The AFS software uses AI to monitor and identify faces and other subjects as they move across the stage, enabling the cameras to maintain precise framing and focus for the audience to enjoy on the large screens beside the stage.

Software Configuration key to success

The software enables the Universal Pixels production team to configure up to 20 custom framing presets per performer. This enabled the Panasonic PTZ cameras to automatically adjust pan, tilt and zoom in real-time as performers moved around the stage.

The automation, coupled with the US150 advanced light sensor, enables the production team to provide stable images throughout the performance as the often energetic band moves around the stage under rapidly changing lighting.

Universal Pixels used two Panasonic AK-UC4000 4K studio cameras to continuously track Noel and Liam Gallagher, leaving the PTZ cameras to take cutaway shots of the other band members, eliminating any tracking across the stage and instantly switching to a new, perfect view of another band member.

The AI-powered software assistance enabled a single operator to manage multiple PTZ cameras, reducing workload and operator fatigue. Operators used a single Remote Operation panel to manage both the Studio and PTZ cameras, delivering a seamless visual display no matter where the venue was.

James Morden, Technical Specialist at Universal Pixels, comments: “Panasonic’s Auto Framing Software is a fantastic tool for touring productions, particularly when working with band members who love to wander around the stage.

“It saves valuable time during performances, allowing directors to focus on specific band members and operators to make only small adjustments. Panasonic’s UE150 PTZ cameras are also exceptionally reliable; they still perform as if they’re brand new on every show.

“Panasonic’s RP150 camera controller and Panapod greatly enhance the performance and versatility of each UE150 PTZ. With customisable presets for pan, tilt, zoom and extenders, the controller becomes incredibly powerful. And the UE150s themselves are exceptionally reliable; after being shipped around the world between de-rigs, they still perform as though they’re brand new.”

Enterprise Times: What does this mean

The Oasis Tour was not an isolated success, with Universal Pixels also leveraging eight of Panasonic’s AK-UCX100 4K studio cameras on Robbie Williams’ ongoing Britpop Tour. These used V-Log colour grading workflows to maintain natural skin tones and consistent visuals in real-time, across challenging outdoor lighting conditions.

Outdoor concerts in mid-summer and the autumn often present unique lighting challenges to maintain a consistent skin tone as sunlight changes naturally through various colours and intensities. The Universal Pixels team created custom workflows and logs tailored to Robbie Williams’ stage conditions, ensuring consistent and flattering visuals from sunset into night time.

The Panasonic cameras and AI-powered software have proven themselves in tough conditions in the music industry time and again. It will be interesting to see what other challenges in other industries it can overcome and how the software evolves using AI to help production teams in the future.
