The pedestrian was hit and seriously injured on Aug. 15, around 2 a.m., near the intersection of 31st Street and Atlantic Avenue, police said.
Paramedics treated the unidentified Long Beach man and transported him to a local hospital. He died from his injuries two days later, but just last week, more than a month after the collision, the Long Beach Police Department learned of his death.
According to the preliminary investigation, the man was walking in the road when a white Chrysler traveling southbound on Atlantic Avenue hit him. The driver of the Chrysler did not stop or render aid, which is required by state law, and continued traveling southbound.
No additional details have been released at this time, and the man’s identity is being withheld until his family is notified of his passing.
The Long Beach Police Department is urging anyone with information about the deadly crash to come forward. Tips can be provided to LBPD Detective Joseph Johnson at 562-570-7355. Anonymous tips can be provided online or by calling 800-222-8477.
