CENTERVILLE, Utah (
ABC4) — A 12-year-old riding an e-bike was struck by a vehicle in Centerville Friday night, according to Centerville Police.
At around 8 p.m. on Sept. 19, a 12-year-old boy riding an electric bicycle was traveling across 400 East at 900 South. He was reportedly in the crosswalk with a group of friends that were walking with him.
According to police, a vehicle heading southbound on 400 East, preparing to turn left onto 900 South, had stopped prior to the crosswalk in the two-way left turn lane. The vehicle stopped allowing the pedestrians to cross.
The boy on the e-bike proceeded across the street ahead of the pedestrians and was struck by a southbound vehicle — identified as a Subaru wagon — that was passing the stopped vehicle, police said. The boy reportedly went over the hood in the crash.
The young cyclist was bleeding from the head, police said, but was conscious and alert while being taken in an ambulance to Primary Children’s Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The boy was reportedly wearing a helmet during the crash.
“Utah Highway Patrol came out to assist with the investigation and accident scene reconstruction,” a press release from Centerville Police states. “The driver of the vehicle was issued a citation for passing a vehicle stopped at a crosswalk. There was no suspicion that impairment was a factor.”
Both vehicles, along with multiple witnesses, remained on scene after the crash.
