FBI announces results of ‘Operation No Escape’

ATLANTA, Ga. (WSAV) – The FBI and U.S. Marshals Service announced the results of “Operation No Escape” during a press conference Thursday afternoon.

According to the FBI in Atlanta, the operation was a “surge of resources” to locate fugitives across Georgia. The six-week operation saw federal, local and state authorities team up to capture 177 fugitives.

Of those apprehended, 28 fugitives were wanted for murder, homicide or manslaughter. 60 people were charged with assault, and eight men were accused of crimes against children. 56 of the fugitives were captured by arrest teams led by the U.S. Marshals Service.

The FBI released a breakdown of the locations where the operation was executed:

  • 106 captured in Metro Atlanta
  • 27 captured in Columbus/Albany/Valdosta
  • 16 captured in Macon and Athens
  • 11 captured at HJ-ATL Airport
  • 9 captured in Augusta and Statesboro
  • 5 captured in Savannah and Brunswick
  • 15 captured in Cartersville, Dalton and Gainesville

FBI Atlanta Special Agent in Charge Paul Brown was quoted in the release, saying:

“Here in Georgia, we aren’t standing idly by. We are addressing violent crime head-on through intelligence and partnerships. We promise to continue our work to disrupt violent crimes, drug organizations, and human traffickers whose criminal acts devastate families and communities.”
