Around 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 15, deputies with the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 10900 block of Taney Drive to investigate a shooting. There, police found a 16-year-old boy, who had been shot in the abdomen.
He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses told deputies that two people were involved in the incident. Shortly after, deputies located two people near the crime scene and began questioning them.
During the encounter, deputies said one of the individuals began making furtive movements toward his waistband.
Following a brief struggle, authorities reportedly recovered a gun from the suspect, a 15-year-old boy.
The teen was charged with possession of a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a person under the age of 18.
The sheriff’s office noted that the 16-year-old who was shot and the 15-year-old suspect are both students at the Spotsylvania County Public Schools.
DC News Now has reached out to the school division for a statement, but has not yet heard back as of Tuesday afternoon.
