Heavy police presence in Steele Creek possibly connected to fatal shooting of 4-year-old boy; at least 1 in custody
(QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 4-year-old boy was tragically shot and killed inside his home early Wednesday morning in Steele Creek, and now Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have swarmed an area just minutes down the road, where at least one person was taken away in handcuffs.

It all started just before 6 a.m. in the Brown Road community, at a townhome complex on Cigar Court, not far from Moss Road. According to CMPD, someone was trying to steal a black Dodge Charger when they were confronted. That’s when, police said, the suspect began firing shots.

Tragically, some of those bullets struck a nearby townhome. One round made its way into the second floor, killing a 4-year-old boy who was inside.

CMPD said they believe the gunfire into the home was intentional.

Heavy police presence

By Wednesday afternoon, police had swarmed another area about 2.5 miles away, around Rivergate Parkway, but have not confirmed whether this is directly related to the shooting.

The scene on Rivergate drew heavy law enforcement presence, with roads temporarily blocked and K-9 units deployed, as investigators try to track down leads in real time.

Queen City News crews observed at least one person being taken into custody.
