Resurfacing work means daytime closures on West Street in downtown Indy

INDIANAPOLIS – Daytime lane restrictions start this week for the final phase of resurfacing work on West Street in downtown Indianapolis.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the lane closures are expected to begin on Wednesday (Sept. 17) from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at intersections between 11th and Morris streets.

The changes will allow crews to install traffic signal loops and crosswalk pavement markings. Some of the restrictions will be lifted as work progresses.

Once work on the intersection is done, crews will add pavement markings, resulting in additional lane closures on West Street.

INDOT aims to have the project finished by the end of September. Drivers should expect delays, especially during morning and evening rush hours.

The work is part of a contract with the city of Indianapolis to resurface local roads that accommodated traffic during North Split construction, which closed some downtown interstate access points.

The work schedule depends on the weather and could shift based on the conditions outside.
