GPD said a patrol officer was waved down just before 8:30 p.m. and notified of “a large fire” near the north end of the 5900 block of Travel Park Circle.
More officers soon responded to the location and discovered several vegetation blazes in the area. Gilroy Fire arrived to help extinguish the flames, confirmed Gilroy police.
A suspect, later identified as Adrian Lopez, 39, was seen walking in the area by a Gilroy police patrol officer.
“The suspect displayed objective signs of being under the influence and was wearing shoes with a similar print to what was found near the fires,” said police. “During his arrest, Lopez made further incriminating statements that resulted in officers arresting him for the arson.”
Lopez was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail where he also faces several drug related charges.
