Person dies after being trapped in Bethesda house fire
Officers and firefighters responded to the reported house fire shortly before 3:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Persimmon Tree Road, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police.
There, responders learned that one person was trapped, quickly working to remove them from the two-story home.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Pete Piringer said firefighters found and rescued the unconscious occupant within two to three minutes of arriving at the scene; however, medics were not able to revive them.
Around 60 firefighters were called to the scene, Piringer said. The fire, which was in the home’s basement, was extinguished.
The Montgomery County Department of Police noted that detectives are conducting a death investigation. As of Thursday night, officials have not released the person’s identity.
