JEFFERSON DAVIS COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – Jefferson Davis County deputies said six suspects have been arrested in connection to the shooting death of a 17-year-old.

The shooting occurred at the Finish Line Drag Strip in the Lucas community around 11:15 p.m. on August 17, 2025. The victim was identified as Gavin Fortenberry, 17. The teenager had just graduated from Camp Shelby and was set to leave for the Air Force. Investigators said four others were injured during the shooting.

Authorities said the following individuals were charged in connection with the murder of Fortenberry and other related offenses:

• Kendarrius Washington, 22
• Jayden Williams, 18
• Javontae Williams, 19

Deputies said the following suspects voluntarily surrendered to the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Office:

• Samuel Martin, 19
• Brey’den Herron, 18
• Gregory Harris, 20

Investigator Vernon Dampier said two additional suspects were also charged in the case. However, their names will not be released until they are in custody.

The investigation remains ongoing.
