Around 3 a.m., employees of an ambulance company reported that they went inside the hospital to transport a patient, and when they returned outside, the ambulance was gone. Reports said that about 20 minutes had passed.
Police reports said that officers viewed surveillance video and saw Nathan Queener, a recently discharged hospital patient, walk around the building to the ambulance bay and drive away with an ambulance. Police reports said that the ambulance was seen on Interstate 680 in Youngstown.
An employee was able to track the ambulance’s location to a residence in the 2000 block of Pointview Avenue, according to the police report. Officers stopped the ambulance on the Center Street Bridge.
Police arrested Queener, but reports said that jail staff refused him because he stated he got high in Youngstown after taking the ambulance. Queener was taken back to St. Joseph Hospital in Warren for further medical evaluation. He was then transferred to the Trumbull County Jail.
Police reports said that nothing was stolen from the ambulance and that no damage was reported to the ambulance.
On Monday, Queener pleaded not guilty to a fourth-degree felony theft charge. His next court date is on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
