Rockford Police said the crime took place around 11:10 p.m. near the Stop-N-Go at 2211 Charles Street.
Investigators believe that Locke of Rockford was shot while in his vehicle in the parking lot. However, officers were called to Charles Street and 11th, where they found the Locke. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died.
On GoFundMe, his mother, Ebonee, recalled, “My son walked out my door alive and well, and he said, ‘Ma, I’ll be right back, I’m going to the gas station.’ Not even 15 minutes later, one of his three friends called me, saying he was shot. His friend almost crashed into an ambulance to stop them to help my son. I asked him one question: ‘Is my son alive?’ He said, ‘He’s well, OG, he’s good’. About 30 minutes later, the doctor looked at me and my sisters and said, ‘We did everything we could, unfortunately, Isaiah passed’.”
Gang detectives from the Rockford Police Department were able to identify 18-year-old Ladavion Crawford and 20-year-old Madison Shackleford as the suspects.
The family has started a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses.
“He brought laughter, love, and light into every room he entered, and his presence will forever be missed by his mother, his two brothers, and his sister,” the fundraiser said.
