(KRON) — A person suspected in the fatal shooting of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk has been taken into custody, according to FBI Director, Kash Patel. Kirk, 31, was shot and killed while making an appearance on campus at Utah Valley University Wednesday.
“The subject for the horrific shooting today that took the life of Charlie Kirk is now in custody,” Patel tweeted. “Thank you to the local and state authorities in Utah with your partnership with FBI.”
Patel said the agency would provide updates “when able.”
Reports of a suspect being taken into custody from the FBI follow conflicting earlier reports from university and law enforcement officials.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox called the subject taken into custody a “person of interest.”
