Louisville police responded to reports of a missing child on the 2300 block of Pikes Peak Boulevard, according to FOX affiliate WDRB.
Sgt. Matt Sanders for the Louisville Metro Police Department said during the investigation, the police learned the child “may have had diminished capacity and possibly was autistic.”
After learning this, Sanders said the police focused efforts on nearby water hazards and residential swimming pools.
Around 8:50 p.m., the police said the child was found in a nearby pool and, despite life-saving efforts, died at Norton Children’s Hospital.
The details surrounding the child’s death are still being investigated.
