Woman on e-scooter killed by San Jose hit-and-run driver ID’d
The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner identified the victim as Monica Ibarra, 52, of San Francisco.
Ibarra was on her e-scooter around 8 a.m. outside the SAP Center when she began to cross Santa Clara Street northbound at the Cahill Street intersection, according to investigators. While in the crosswalk, police said she was struck by a black 2021 Ram pickup truck being driven by a man.
Following the crash, the vehicle immediately fled the scene, SJPD said. The pickup truck was later located abandoned away from the scene.
“The vehicle was determined to be an unreported stolen vehicle,” police said Tuesday. “The driver is unidentified and remains at large.”
Ibarra was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Her death marks the city’s 24th fatal collision of 2025.
Anyone with information in the fatal crash is asked to contact SJPD’s Traffic Investigations Unit at 408-277-4654 or 4264@sanjoseca.gov.
