This article will update in real-time throughout the night with the latest election results, including key races for Mayor, At-Large Council seats, and Council Districts 1 through 6.
What is on the ballot?
Mayor’s Race
Mayor Vi Lyles is seeking a fifth term and faced several challengers in the Democratic primary. The winner will move on to November’s general election to face Republican Terrie Donovan and Libertarian Rob Yates.
City Council At-Large
This race is wide open, with several Democratic candidates hoping to secure one of four spots on the November ballot.
Republicans Edwin Peacock and Misun Kim are already locked in for the general.
District Races
Each district has its own flavor, and some of Tuesday night’s winners will automatically take office due to no opposition in November:
- District 1 (Uptown, NoDa, Plaza Midwood): No GOP challenger, so the Democratic primary winner gets the seat
- District 3 (West Charlotte, Airport area, Steele Creek): Strong Democratic turnout; the primary winner will face Republican James Bowers
- District 4 (Northeast Charlotte, UNC Charlotte): Another Democrat-heavy area with no Republican challenger
- District 5 (East Charlotte): No GOP candidate here either, so tonight’s winner takes the seat
- District 6 (South Charlotte, SouthPark): A rare toss-up. The GOP primary winner will face Democrat Kimberly Owens in what’s expected to be a close November race
Results will start rolling in shortly after 7:30 p.m. This article will update live as precincts report. For full results by race, check back often and follow our coverage on Queen City News social media platforms.
