‘Blow up and kill all of you’: Indiana man sentenced after threatening to detonate bomb at U.S. Supreme Court building

(WXIN/WTTV): An Indiana man has been sentenced to four years in federal prison after pleading guilty to sending “threatening communications” to the United States Supreme Court clerk, including a threat to bomb the Supreme Court building.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Indiana, 39-year-old Roger King received his sentence on Monday after pleading guilty to two counts of mailing threatening communications. Once he completes his four-year sentence, he must also serve two years of supervised release.

The release confirmed this new sentence will run consecutive to the sentence King was already serving at the New Castle Correctional Facility.

Court documents reveal that on Nov. 9, 2021, King sent a letter to the United States Supreme Court Clerk that was intended for the “Republican justices.” Authorities said the letter contained multiple threats aimed at the justices, including a claim that King would detonate a bomb at the United States Supreme Court building.

Investigators said King doubled down on these threats in the communications, stating he was “very serious” and that he had “every intention to come to Washington to use a bomb” that would “blow up and kill all of you Republican Justices.”

This would not prove to be the last time King would mail threatening letters during his incarceration. On April 1, 2022, King mailed a letter to the United States District Court Clerk in the Southern District of Indiana that was addressed to two federal judges who were overseeing a civil case filed by King at the time.

Investigators soon determined the letter contained a white powdery substance that King insinuated was either anthrax or boric acid, according to the release. Although the unknown substance was later deemed “harmless,” an extensive law enforcement response was initiated when a judicial employee initially opened the letter.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Supreme Court Police, United States Marshals Service, Indiana State Police, the Indiana Department of Corrections, the Marion County Public Health Department and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department each assisted in this investigation.
