Commanders fans pack restaurants to watch team win season-opening game

ARLINGTON, Va. (DC News Now) — Washington Commanders fans left the Crystal City Sports Pub feeling good following their team’s season-opening win at home Sunday against NFC division rival, the New York Giants.

“I’m ecstatic. Let’s go, Commanders,” shouted Ricky Carrero following Washington’s 21-6 victory.

Many fans arrived well before the 1 p.m. kickoff to get a good seat.

“They’re looking really good, better than I was expecting for game one,” said Alicia Reynolds.

The confidence fans feel about their team is primarily due to one player.

“Oh, Jayden Daniels, our quarterback, absolutely,” Carrero explained.

Some fans believe this year’s team is the best they’ve seen in more than a decade due to the all-around balance the Commanders have.

“Got to feel really good after that Week One win, you know what I’m saying,” said Jason Sailes. “So we pulled it off 1-0 in the division. So we’re doing good.”

Winning the season opener has fans expecting more than just a return to the NFC Title Game that the Commanders lost to Philadelphia last season.

“Super Bowl, we’re like that, Super Bowl,” said fans Jay Lowery and Lante Walker.

“Let’s go. Washington. Whoa!” they cheered.

It will be a short week of practice for the Commanders, who travel to Lambeau Field for a Thursday night matchup with the Green Bay Packers. Fans will again pack the Crystal City Sports Pub to watch the game.
