Tommy Fletcher, the manager of media relations for Spirit Airlines, stated that the decision was made as a result to transform the company and achieve long-term success.
“We are adjusting our network to focus on our strongest performing markets. As a result, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue service,” said Fletcher.
The Salt Lake International Airport is not the only airport affected by the cuts. Fletcher stated that service will also be cut in Albuquerque (ABQ), Birmingham (BHM), Boise (BOI), Chattanooga (CHA), Columbia (CAE), Oakland (OAK), Portland (PDX), Sacramento (SMF), San Diego (SAN) and San Jose (SJC).
In a statement to ABC4.com, Spirit Airlines stated: “We apologize to our Guests for any inconvenience this may cause and will reach out to those with affected reservations to notify them of their options, including a refund. We are grateful to the airports, business partners and community members in these markets who welcomed and supported us.”
The airline will continue to serve customers in other areas of the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean.
