Sandy woman faces multiple charges after allegedly causing crash with child in car while DUI

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

KEARNS, Utah (ABC4) — A Sandy woman has been charged after allegedly causing a multi-vehicle crash where she and a young child were injured.

Ashley June Forsland, 37, has been charged with one count of driving under the influence with two or more priors in the last 10 years, driving under the influence with a passenger under 16 years of age, negligently operating a vehicle resulting in injury, possession or use of a controlled substance, open container of alcohol in vehicle, driving on a suspended or revoked license, careless driving, and duty to operate vehicle on the right side of the road.

According to charging documents, on July 29, 2025, the Unified Police Department was dispatched to a multi-vehicle accident near 5400 South Morning Breeze Drive in Kearns. Five vehicles total were involved in the crash, and officers found that Forsland was at fault.

While driving eastbound in a Chevrolet Impala, Forsland allegedly swerved into the center lane and struck a Hyundai Sonata head-on. The impact caused the Sonata to be pushed into the eastbound lanes, and it was struck by a GMC Sierra pickup. Both the Sierra and Sonata were disabled due to the crash.

Despite already crashing into another vehicle, Forsland reportedly continued forward and struck a Hyundai SUV and a Chevrolet Cruze before finally coming to a stop. Medical arrived on scene and transported Forsland to a hospital in critical condition.

A child under the age of 5 was a passenger in Forsland’s vehicle at the time of the crash. He was transported to the hospital, and it was found that he had sustained an injury to his face, head, and spine.

Unified Police officers searched Forsland’s vehicle after the crash and reportedly found an open bottle of alcohol, marijuana, and “several THC vape pens.” When the passenger child’s mother responded to the hospital, police informed her of what was found inside the vehicle.

“She’s doing it again? I thought she was doing better,” the child’s mother reportedly stated. The mother confirmed that Forsland had picked the child up that day.

A toxicology report on Forsland revealed that she had ethanol, THC, 11-hydroxy-THC, THC-COOH, and Oxycodone in her system at the time her blood was drawn. Her license had already been suspended before the crash on July 29.

Forsland is currently not in jail as long as she obeys pretrial felony DUI conditions, such as not consuming any substances, submitting to drug and alcohol tests, complying with driver’s license suspensions, and completing treatment.
