BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A man was arrested after a shooting in Baton Rouge left one person injured.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, officers were called to Lorna Avenue around 5:30 a.m. Aug. 29 about a shooting. Upon arrival, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds before he was taken to a local hospital.
Detectives arrived at the scene and found three spent casings with blood. Investigators spoke with a witness who was on scene and learned that he and the victim were outside drinking when the suspect, later identified as Mario Jezziel Tejada Sevilla, 25, walked up holding a gun, looking for someone.
The witness said Sevilla pointed the gun at him, asking for the man’s location. He responded that he did not know before heading inside. He reports that after entering his home, he heard Sevilla and the victim having a verbal dispute.
The witness told detectives that he went back outside and saw the victim walking away from Sevilla. An affidavit stated that the victim reportedly approached Sevilla’s vehicle before Sevilla fired about four rounds, striking the victim.
Sevilla was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault with a firearm, and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities.
