Ways to celebrate Labor Day in Maryland, Virginia

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — With many enjoying the long Labor Day weekend as summer comes to an unofficial close, there are several ways people across Maryland and Virginia can celebrate the holiday.

DC News Now has compiled a list of events taking place across the DMV this Labor Day to commemorate the federal holiday, which pays tribute to the social and economic achievement of American workers.

Maryland

Kensington’s Annual Labor Day Parade & Festival | Sept. 1, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Come out to the Town of Kensington for the 58th annual Labor Day Parade and Festival, featuring dance groups, marching bands, fire trucks, food and drink vendors, live music, bounce houses and more.

The rain or shine parade will kick off at 10 a.m. at Plyers Mill Road and end at Noyes Library, with family-friendly activities taking place along Armory Avenue.

87th Annual Labor Day Parade, Gaithersburg | Sept. 1, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Residents in Gaithersburg can celebrate the unofficial end of summer with the 87th Annual Labor Day Parade, which will march down East Diamond and Russell Avenues starting at 10 a.m.

Following the parade, event-goers can enjoy a block party with food, inflatables, and music in the Community Museum parking lot and Olde Towne Plaza from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Labor Day Weekend Sales, Tanger National Harbor | Sept. 1

Virginia

Fairfax Labor Day Car Show | Sept. 1, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Car enthusiasts can explore over 300 show cars, including street rods, antiques and muscle cars, at the Fairfax Labor Day Car Show in Downtown Fairfax.

The free event will feature music, food and raffles. However, donations are encouraged, with 100% of the proceeds going toward charities such as Life with Cancer and the Cloverleaf Equine Center.

The event, which was first held in Fairfax in 2016, will take place in the heart of Fairfax City, along University Drive, between Sager and Armstrong Streets.
