UPDATE- September 1, 2025, 7:50 p.m.: Westbound lanes have been reopened between Price and Spanish Fork, according to UDOT.

Original Story:

UTAH COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — A fire is affecting the roadway on US-6, causing significant delays.

According to the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), a fire broke out near the US-6 and US-89 Junction in Utah County, prompting road closures.

Utah Highway Patrol and UDOT say they have closed US-6 in both directions. Eastbound lanes are closed at MP 190 at the US-89 junction and westbound lanes are closed at Price. They are calling this fire the ‘Longhollow’ fire.

Notably, Utah Fire Info is currently calling it the ‘Long Hollow’ fire and are estimating it is 20 acres currently. They also say the fire started on private land.

In addition to the fire, many travelers are currently using US-6 as they travel for Labor Day activities, which may contribute to the delays. UDOT says travelers should, “expect heavy delays in the area and use alternate route”, including US-89 and US-191. They have not yet confirmed when the roadway will reopen.

Lieutenant Clay Morgan, with the Utah Highway Patrol, says, “This is the worst possible weekend for us in this canyon. We have a lot of people to travel and it’s slow anyway on Labor Day weekend. When we have to shut it down for even a few minutes, it just backs up for miles and miles”

Eric Jacobsen, a truck driver, said the delays impacted him greatly. He said, “It’s going to cost me 5 hours maybe depending on what time they let us out so that ends up snowballing into my unload time at the other end.”

Jacobsen was driving a truck full of hazardous materials. While he says the delays impacted him, he also says, “It’s inconvenient, but it’s necessary not only to keep us safe but to keep all these other vehicles safe. If my truck catches on fire, this road is shut down for weeks. Because of [a] hazardous spill, they have to dig up the pavement and ground.”

While forward progress on the fire has been stopped, roadways have not fully reopened.
