Emergency maintenance to fix pothole on I-15 causes major delays

ORIGINAL STORY

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC4) — A pothole on the northbound lanes of I-15 has caused major traffic delays near 9800 South in South Jordan on Friday morning.

Utah Highway Patrol told ABC4.com it has responded to the pothole and blocked three of the four lanes to help facilitate the emergency repair. The closures leave only two through lanes on I-15 open, with the remaining two open lanes being exit lanes onto 9000 South or 7200 South.

The Utah Department of Transportation has been contacted to complete the repairs and is en route.

UDOT advised drivers to expect delays and to use an alternate route, if possible.

According to the UDOT Traffic Monitor website, the lane closures have backed up traffic past 12300 South and near Bangerter Highway. Slowing has started to reach the point of the mountain near 14600 South.

Neither Utah Highway Patrol nor UDOT could provide an estimate on when the repairs will be completed and the lanes will be reopened.
