Three $50,000 Powerball prizes won in Kansas as jackpot climbs higher

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Three Powerball players in Kansas got lucky on Labor Day with some big cash prizes to kick off September.

The Kansas Lottery reports on its website that three Powerball players in Kansas hit $50,000 prizes during the drawing on Monday, Sept. 1. Two of the players purchased tickets in northeast Kansas while the third bought a winning ticket in southwest Kansas.

The winning Powerball numbers for the Sept 1. drawing were 8-23-25-40-53 with a red Powerball of 5. Players win the $50,000 prize if they can match four of the white balls and the red Powerball.

Each of the prizes are subject to both state and federal taxes, according to the Kansas Lottery. The state tax amounts to 5% while the federal tax is 24%, meaning each prize is actually worth $35,500.

The current Powerball jackpot sits at $1.3 billion with a cash value of $589 million. The next drawing will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3. You can learn more about how to play the Powerball in Kansas and claim prizes by clicking here.
