The second edition of the Associated Press Top 25 saw Tennessee move up two spots to No. 22.
Tennessee is one of 10 SEC schools in the AP rankings. Alabama fell from No. 8 to No. 21, one place ahead of the Vols, following a surprising loss to Florida State. Georgia, who will come to Neyland Stadium in Week 3, moved up one spot to No. 4.
The US LBM Coaches Poll, which is voted on by a panel of head coaches at Football Bowl Subdivision schools, also moved up the Vols after Week 1. They came in at No. 17 this week, up one spot from the preseason poll.
Head coach Josh Heupel maintained his perfect record in season openers at Tennessee with a 45-26 victory at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
New quarterback Joey Aguilar impressed in his debut with 247 passing yards and three touchdowns, earning recognition as one of the Manning Award Stars of the Week. The SEC recognized wide receiver Braylon Staley as the Freshman of the Week and defensive back Colton Hood was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
The team now returns to Knoxville to prepare for Saturday’s home opener against ETSU and the highly anticipated clash with Georgia on Sept. 13.
